Dr. Michelle Miller invites the Hopewell Area School District community members to share in conversation over coffee.

I was taken by the power that savoring a simple cup of coffee can have to connect people and create community.” Howard Schultz, founder of Starbucks

By definition, a Coffee Klatch is a casual social gathering for coffee and conversation.  It is an opportunity for parents and community members to learn about the District’s extraordinary students and programs and also to provide time to ask questions or share concerns they might have about our school district or public education in general.

The Coffee Klatch concept has the potential to help District administrators in many ways.  A member of the public can feel free to bring any question to the table regarding education, or the school district in general. The open dialogue and willingness to listen and discuss what’s important to the community is critical for the District’s growth. The thoughts of the public are important and a Coffee Klatch provides an informal venue in which the community can participate.

These gatherings can also clarify or provide information for the public or make administration aware of parent or public concerns. In an informal setting, the public may feel more inclined to share thoughts and ideas. It should be noted that there may be topics that are not appropriate for the Coffee Klatch setting. These matters can be discussed one on one with administrators at a different time. These topics include specific student or personnel issues or any items that would be considered confidential.  We are hoping that by making the leaders of the school district available to the public in this manner, communication increases, citizens feel more comfortable in reaching out to the district, and feelings of trust and mutual respect are further built between the school district and community.
